Badvent Calendar Day 23

Cortado Imperial Coffee Milk Stout, from Brash Brewery
7/10

This is not a bad beer, let me say that up front. I believe my experience of this beer suffered not from the beer itself but in its proximity to the Left Hand Milk Stout I had two nights ago.

These two milk stouts are worlds apart. But I don’t think that’s a mistake. A coffee stout and a milk stout have two different destinations. Having said that, this beer is not as smooth as the Left Hand Milk. But it’s also not a deep or rich.

If the LHMS was a shape, it would be a brilliant, shining, sphere. By comparison, the Brasher Cortado would be a dodecagon…you know…the dodecagon, the 12-sided shape? Almost a circle but with enough edges to keep it from being smooth?

Don’t get me wrong. It’s full, it’s deep, it even has a very slight dark chocolate hint. You also definitely get the heavily roasted note, strongly…which is something I really enjoyed about it.

Like I said in the beginning, it is not a bad beer. I think if the order had been different, this might have scored higher than a 7. But to have had the milk stout two nights ago, it’s hard to judge this quite as independent as I would have preferred in hindsight.
