Shiner’s Brewer’s Pride – a Fruitcake Pastry Porter in collaboration with Collin Street Bakery

8/10

I had extremely high expectations from this dessert beer. My family is from Corsicana, TX and I feel like I grew up at Collin Street Bakery in many ways. Every time we went to our family home, we would stop at the bakery on the way in. My parents would get breads and sweets and all kinds of things and I was allowed to get a cookie. Such incredible memories has kept Collin St as a fixture, or even an icon of my childhood.

And I do love me some fruitcake.

However, this beer wasn’t exactly what I thought it would be – and I’m happily surprised and impressed. This is not a super sweet fruitcakey beer. If it had been, I would probably enjoy it for the novelty and never go back. But this is a very nicely balanced, dark but not heavy, dessert beer with slight hints of dark Cherry and pecans. So slight. It’s a perfect porter with a great balance of flavors.

Shiner has made me proud on this one.

And happy Christmas Eve, you guys! Only one more day to go on my Badvent journey! I can’t believe we made it. This takes dedication.
